Kids dailies scans the world to find news children want to read and interact with, in words, sounds, pictures, graphics and animations. We publish three dailies for three reading levels, in English, simplified and traditional Chinese.

Our mission is to promote early literacy, encourage reading while stimulating curiosity about the world. We do this by creating engaging and age-appropriate news-driven content.

In the beginning it was just two publishers – Christine Brendle and Sarah Leventhorpe, along with lawyer, Junri Konii Egerton. They were aware of the importance of early reading, but struggled to find real-life reading material for their children, Louis, Henry and Shuku.

As their children began to read, these parents found themselves hiding the often-violent front page stories of the grown-up newspapers. Any news that might be of interest to their children was usually buried deep in the newspaper and aimed at adults, preventing it from being child-friendly. With the support of Playbac, an innovative French publisher, the trio created Kids Dailies with the aim of providing 15-20 minutes of daily reading to children who want to know more about the world. So, with much determination, Daily7 and Daily10 were successfully launched in September 2004. Daily5 (My Little Paper) was introduced later to to strengthen foundational reading skills in young children:sorting, recognising colours, memorising short songs and tunes, basic numeracy skills, sounding simple phonics or recognising ideograms.

Our readers are kindergarten and primary school students. They are an equal mix of first and second language English or Chinese language readers. Schools, teachers, private tutors and learning centres also subscribe to our dailies, which they recognise as valuable teaching aids.

As a caring company we support several Government Online Safety policies and are concerned about our environment. Part of our decision to go digital was to offer a better, interactive product and to reduce our environmental impact. For products we do manufacture, packaging used in the delivery of our products is 100% biodegradable and recyclable. We retain the services of professional educational and editorial consultants to ensure that our products offer the most benefit to our readers.

Reaching out to the community is essential for Kids Dailies. We visit schools and offer talks on journalism, communication and news gathering, as well as other relevant topics. We also conduct workshops with children and walk through the steps to create their very own newspaper. We support the development of young authors and sponsor literary awards and events as encouragement.
